Kim Doyle | BA, MSOM, DiplAc, LAc

Kim's approach to integrative medicine supports the whole self: mind, body, and spirit. Through her training and her own personal journey, she has seen how Traditional Chinese Medicine can give people a new lease on health and life.

Although she enjoys treating all conditions, Kim has special interest in oncology support, neuropathy, sciatica, back and spinal pain, trauma, Bells Palsy, stroke recovery, emotional imbalances such as anxiety and depression, insomnia, menopausal issues, joint replacement issues and pain management.

Kim is passionate about social justice issues and committed to her faith community. She finds pleasure and refreshment in almost anything outdoors: hanging in a hammock, biking, kayaking, camping, and walking her golden doodle dog, to name a few. In addition, yoga and meditation are practices that help her navigate her own life.

Kim graduated cum laude from Northwestern Health Sciences University and holds a masters degree in Oriental Medicine. In addition to being certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Kim is also licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. She has experience practicing in traditional clinics, hospital in-patient, Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in-patient and out-patient, as well as community style clinics.

Kim also holds a BA in business administration and systems management. Prior to becoming a health professional, she was a computer programer in the corporate world. Kim also spent more than a decade working overseas as a humanitarian aid worker in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These life experiences helped her see first-hand how stress and trauma affect health.

Instagram post 2175600039892504280_3124635786 There are many things I’ve learned to love about winter. I find myself able to mellow out and go inward. I love making soup and having friends over to get under blankets and watch movies or play board games. I typically have the forests that Beatrice and I go to all to ourselves. Snow is pretty and fun to play in. If I’m taking care of myself by eating well, daily exercise, saying “no” to too many social obligations, going to bed early and hot baths I can get by just fine. If I don’t do all of these things depression ensues.
This winter I’ve decided to mix things up a bit. I’m going to Southern California for December and January. I was fortunate enough to hire an acupuncturist to cover my shifts and @nick_tenbrink and I have dear friends who will live in our home and take wonderful care of our cat, Gus.
I don’t have many plans other than to run Beatrice on the beach, do yoga, and explore. You wouldn’t think it’d be hard but it was a pretty tough decision to make. I had to get past the “what ifs” about me leaving my patients, business, house, and cat for two months. But that fear is gone and now I’m embracing the wonderful gift of abundant sunshine, fresh food, and lots of extra time on my hands. And, I know a large chunk of getting through winter is all about mindset, and sometimes ice can be pretty, but I’m just really happy I won’t have to look at it for a couple of months.

Instagram post 2174979452886632555_3124635786 The Minnesotan in me is coming out in my lunch today: * Homemade hot chocolate topped with homemade whip cream and fresh ground fresh nutmeg from last night’s hygge movie night with friends. Only 1/2 cup of sugar per 7 cups of milk which is about 80% less than what most recipes call for. It’s much more flavorful without all the sugar. Also, Roma is a great movie. *Sunday night’s butternut squash soup with my homemade bone broth. And toasted seeds, ya know, for fun. *Friday night’s Coq Au Vin (made by the one and only @nick_tenbrink) with wild rice harvested by a friend.

Instagram post 2170847510008274682_3124635786 Black peppercorns, cumin seed, mustard seed, fenugreek, and coriander seed toasted and ground up. All equal parts. I cannot tell you how good my kitchen smelled. I seasoned my lentils with this combination and topped them with cucumber and goat cheese over rice. Cheap, easy, and ridiculously delicious. Give it a try!

Instagram post 2169218359967601268_3124635786 Little bits of magic everywhere.
Instagram post 2162742028852932504_3124635786 Most people are posting about how beautiful the leaves are right now, but can you believe how beautiful this tree is without leaves? It’s right across the street from Merriam Park Acupuncture so if you’re as smitten as I am make sure to say “hi” at your next appointment.
Instagram post 2160594452066273433_3124635786 I suffer from seasonal depression. The lack of dreamy sunlight is legit hell for some of us. However, over the years it has gotten better and better for me now that I know how to manage it. The four main things that help are healthy food, exercise, weekly acupuncture and my spiritual practice. Luckily cooking is a hobby of mine! On a cloudy and gloomy day like today I’m fortunate enough to be in my cozy kitchen making Bibimbap while listening to Johnny, Dolly, Willie and all the other greats.
Check out these ingredients: *Pickled carrots and daikon radish - vinegar and sugar
* Sautéd chard - sesame oil, garlic, vinegar, maple syrup that I harvested
*Sauted shiitake mushrooms - ghee
*Kimchi - bok choy, carrots, ginger, garlic, green onion, Korean chili powder
*chopped green onion, cucumber, mung bean sprouts
*Korean BBQ beef - ginger, garlic, honeycrisp apple, sesame oil, sake, brown sugar, Gochujang (fermented chili paste)
*toasted (by me, to perfection) sesame seeds and seaweed *rice The only thing that’s not made from scratch is the dehydrated seaweed and Gochujang.
All of this has been packed up for my lunches. My meals coupled with a bike ride in to work typically means that I have plenty of energy and positivity for a full day. I’m so happy I’m slowly figuring this out. Last winter was largely delightful for me! HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be a day when I spend the winters elsewhere 😉. #ingredients #bimbimbap #delish #homemade #organic #farmersmarket #cooking #cozykitchen #loveofcooking #healthycooking #healthnut #wellness #holistichealth #nutrients #youarewhatyoueat #satisfaction #lunchbox #seasonaldepression #acupuncturist #acupuncture #traditionalchinesemedicine #merriampark #stpaul #minneapolis #minnesota #midtownfarmersmarket

Instagram post 2149586328236836935_3124635786 This was my dinner last night. An acorn squash roasted with Seward Co-op breakfast sausage drizzled with maple syrup along with chard sautéd in olive oil. The salad consisted of arugula, boiled beets, peas, broccoli, carrots, watermelon radish, red radish, tomatillos, tomatoes, green beans, scallions, oil and vinegar dressing. Everything was picked up at the Kingsfield Farmer’s market. Whenever my clients ask me how they should eat, this is a good example: mostly plants, fresh as possible, healthy fats, no processed foods, with a protein of your choice. For the sake of TMI my gastrointestinal system is very happy right now.
