Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have been used for thousands of years to treat many diseases and infertility is no exception. China has a population of over a billion people and that’s a lot of babies!
Any imbalance or physical and emotional stress can affect a person’s ability to become pregnant. For woman the most common western diseases that cause infertility are:
- PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Luteal Phase Defect
- Irregular or Painful Periods
Men can also experience issues with fertility, which can hinder the couple’s chances of becoming pregnant. Men’s issues can be:
- Sperm count
What can Chinese Medicine do?
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs help regulate the hormonal system of the woman’s body and also can help with men’s concerns as well. Acupuncture and herbs help to regulate the Hypothalamus/Pituitary/Ovarian axis, which is the body’s main regulator for fertility. Some of the things Acupuncture can do is to stimulate blood flow to the uterus, improving the thickness of the lining of the uterus, making it more receptive to the embryo. Acupuncture can also calm uterine contractions to make for easier implantation. For men, Chinese Medicine can improve the quality and quantity of the sperm to make for easier conception.
In TCM terms, Chinese Medicine sees Infertility as an imbalance in the qi, blood and essence needed for conception. We use Acupuncture and herbs to balance the body, correct the flow of qi and blood and nourish the essence so the couple can conceive.
